Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
As Abraham believed what God promised; so we also are to believe the Word of God. As it was counted as righteousness to Abraham it will also be to us.
The effect of Abraham’s belief was that all nations would be blessed. It will be the same through our belief; it will have its effects.
God is still in charge of the nations. Through human history, as recorded in the Old Testament, the nation which believed the Lord is blessed. That means the people of God bring blessings to their country. It’s great to be enabled to believe and know we’re bringing good to our own loved ones. Verse 9 repeats this promise to us!
