When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Pentecost – about 50 days after the Paschal Lamb feast; when the blood of the lamb was placed on the door posts and lintels of the Hebrew people. It was a festival of good cheer, a day of joy. The Israelites were to remember their bondage and reconsecrate themselves to the Lord. For the Christians Pentecost marks the beginning of the church and also is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This outpouring of the Spirit proved the existence of the Third Person of the Trinity. It changed and enabled the apostles to be the proclaiming witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For us it is to be a time of joy for we also are set free from the bondage of evil’s control. We are to seek the Spirit of God to lead us to Christ and on in Him. Changed in these ways we can also be witnesses for the Lord. The early Disciples changed their world. They lived and died telling others that Jesus is the risen Lord God and Savior of mankind, giver of everlasting life in heaven. This is promised to those who believe, confess sin and live in the Lord. Let’s change our world celebrating the true Pentecost and tell it by our lives.
In Christ, Pastor LeRoy
